Wake up the body

Morning yoga for energy

Short morning flows and energising breath to start the day feeling awake and ready.

A short morning practice helps the body move from sleep to activity. Gentle spinal movement wakes up the back, standing poses get the blood moving, and a few rounds of energising breath can brighten the mind.

Keep the first minutes slow, especially if you feel stiff after sleep, then build to more active flowing movement. Even five to ten minutes can change how the day begins.

Tips for practice

  • Start slowly: the body is often stiffer first thing.
  • Open a window or practise near daylight.
  • Drink some water before or after practice.
  • Try energising breath after movement, not straight out of bed.
Practise safely

Avoid strong, rapid breathing techniques such as kapalabhati if you are pregnant or have high blood pressure, heart conditions or epilepsy.

Questions people ask

Is it better to do yoga in the morning or evening?

Both work. Morning practice tends to energise, evening practice tends to calm. The best time is the one you can keep.

Should I do yoga before breakfast?

Many people prefer to practise on an empty or light stomach. A small snack is fine if you feel faint or low on energy.
