Health & Safety Policy

Yoga, breathwork and meditation are safe for most people when practised with care. This page explains how to use YogiSoul guides safely and where their limits lie.

Educational, not medical

YogiSoul guides are general education. They do not take your individual health into account and are not a substitute for advice from a doctor, physiotherapist or qualified teacher.

Listen to your body

  • Move slowly and stay within a comfortable range.
  • Stop straight away if you feel sharp pain, pinching, numbness, dizziness or breathlessness.
  • Rest whenever you need to — Child’s Pose or lying flat are always options.
  • Use props such as blocks, a strap, a cushion or a chair to make poses accessible.

Breathwork cautions

Breath retention and fast breathing techniques are not suitable for everyone. Avoid them if you are pregnant, or have high blood pressure, heart conditions, epilepsy, glaucoma, or a history of panic attacks, unless a qualified teacher advises otherwise. Never practise breathwork while driving or in water.

When to seek guidance first

Talk to your doctor before starting if you are pregnant or recently gave birth, recovering from surgery or injury, or managing a heart, blood-pressure, spinal or other long-term condition.

Ayurveda

Ayurveda is a traditional system of medicine. Our Ayurveda pages share traditional ideas about food, routine and herbs for education. Herbs can interact with medicines — check with a doctor or pharmacist before using them therapeutically, and never stop prescribed treatment.
